Malta is a strategic outpost against the spread of Islamic doctrine in the West, and as such becomes the scene of bloody clashes. The most famous battle of 1565 is that it enshrines finally the Knights of Malta nell'olimpo heroes. Fort Sant'Angelo, the fortified heart of Malta, was besieged for months. The clash is uneven: 40 janissary thousand armed horsemen against 600 orders for the grand master Jean de La Vallette. Are months of horror: the riders are caught crucified and thrown into the sea, the other Muslim prisoners are beheaded and their heads used as ammunition for the guns. Yet the courage and the warrior art of the riders managed to get the upper hand on the enemy army exterminated. And not only: in 5 years that follow is built a city rich and bright, which will become the capital of the island. His name even today is La Valletta, in honor of the majestic leader.
