The Island of Knights
April is the last month useful that I can do for a few days off before the summer I work with constraints. I state that my travels are always a double purpose, underwater and culture. Saturday night pizza with Marina Oswald, my wife Carla and I, the proposal is a short trip to Malta so 'to satisfy everyone. Monday 'afternoon was beautiful and made the reservation, for the first time a self-taught via the Internet, quickly and easily. Malta island from the glorious past and rich history has been able to preserve monuments and witnesses of every age. Thanks to its natural harbor and was a strategic point and power in the Baltic Mediterraneo.Molte are the civilizations that have left their traces, from Neolithic times 5000 years before Christ and more 'old man of Egyptian pyramids. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Castilians, French, English and finally the Knights of the 'Order of St. John, who ruled Malta for three hundred years until 1798, leaving a 'indelible and of great appeal. The Knights were noblemen from the most important European families, invested by a core mission, to protect the Catholic faith and Europe from attacks by the Ottoman Turks. The Co-Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Valletta, which I recommend you visit is a unique monument. His art-historical importance derives from having been used for over two hundred years a church convent of the Order of the Knights of St. John. Between Sicily, Tunisia and Libya, Malta is the largest island of an archipelago off the coast varied and picturesque high and handled with deep coves and beautiful beaches and cliffs.
Departure from the Airport of Treviso with Ryanair flight to Malta with less than two hours of travel and a warm climate and healthy welcomes us with the nearly 30 ° C. The Hotel comfortable but a bit 'noisy due to some schools, council however book structures with four or more stars so 'to avoid surprises. The location 'option is adjacent to the famous St. Julian's, Paceville area where cafes, restaurants, shops and leisure facilities and shopping. The seafront and offers wonderful walks to no end, even at night. In Malta after a day of sun and culture you can enjoy the famous Casino, which stands on a beautiful complex built on a 800 spur between the bay of St. Julian 's, and St. George. Given the proximity from the Hotel I was entrusted to the Cresta Diving where James, the owner, David Casey and his staff have welcomed me like an old friend who had not seen for some time, with surprise, enraptured by my friends that I later have already asked if I knew them from before. The service offered by the diving I would deem very good, transport, even of my dear, to professionalism in the selection of dive sites to the care of equipment, diving has opened not long, but the score is already large. Diving into a sea which is among the most intact of the Mediterranean, with rocky coves leveled gold. His bed rich in caves, caverns and crevices provide ideal conditions for a rich animal life and are a paradise for divers. On the island are about 30 diving including the nearby island of Gozo, the island of the nymph Calypso is known to the ancients under the name of Ogigia where Odysseus was kept prisoner of love from the same nymph for seven years, but I have not had time to visit. I am confident however in the near return, so 'way for me to find the friends of Cresta and continue my story. A final view of the reservation to the hospitality of people who have centuries of reception for those arriving by sea, then frame what will be a different holiday, charming and not to forget.
