The famous mills of Zaansche Schans, in the north of Netherlands
Approximately 15 minutes by train from Amsterdam is the park named Windmills Zaanse Schans. To get there is simple: from Amsterdam Central Station you take a train to Alkmaar and get off at Koog-Zaandijk. The journey takes just over a quarter of an hour and tickets cost about 5 euros / r. Follow the directions and arrive at Zaanse Schans. The best thing is ... do not believe that the entry is free! The main attraction of the park Zaanse Schans windmills are the 6 survivors along the river Zaan (once had 700). These buildings were typically used to grind anything from cereals to coloring and were a valuable aid to time. Today these six mills are still functioning and well-maintained by people who live there and some of them are still in operation. You can visit but you must pay a contribution to the maintenance (price varies from 4 to 6 euros). The biggest and perhaps the most famous is the windmill called De Kat, the cat where you can watch the grinding mustard seeds but also the color of flour. In others it is possible to attend the cutting of timber ... all very nice but not necessary to see. I think the show is on the whole, the landscape is wonderful, with a campaign held in flawlessly with these mills colored leaves that slowly move the blades to their magnificent gentle breeze ... not to mention the rivers which pass down ' inside the houses, reached by small wooden bridges straight out of a storybook childhood ... If you get hungry there are also two great bars!
