This tour is part of a much larger journey made by train InterRail ticket including crossing Switzerland, West Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and European Turkey to visit with many City during the journey.
I came to Norway in the evening by ferry Frederikshavn (Denmark)-Moss. Night in a small but elegant hotel in the center and continued the next morning by train to Oslo.
In the Capital along Karl Johans gate to the gardens and the Royal Palace, to follow the Town Hall and the lungoporto where stalls selling wonderful sandwiches stuffed shrimp. In the night I traveled by train to Trondheim where they arrived the next morning. Visited the city with a beautiful Gothic cathedral and a few wooden houses. Nearby on a hill in the afternoon spent in the beautiful open-air Ethnographic Museum. There are reconstructions of houses and environments from all over Norway as a typical church of wood, Stavkirche where I attended the celebration of a marriage. Inside the museum there are exhibitions like the one on the history of skiing, invented here. The road that leads into the city offers a good overview of the fjord Trontheim. From here I have taken a night train to Bodo, modern cities from which a small boat to the island of Vaeroy where I came in the evening after a visit to the nearby island of Rost. The capital of this small island, Sorvaeroy, is a group of wooden houses overlooking the harbor and surrounded by structures that are used for drying fish. The island is mountainous and wild, over continuously from flocks of birds. Having slept in a typical casina the day after I woke up with the island tormented by rain and a dense fog enveloped by which it was impossible to escape if not the night to retrieve the boat for Bodo. From this city you can go north by bus only and so I made up to Tromso. Indeed in Narvik, where cities have passed, there is a railway line but comes from the Swedish Kiruna. The journey to Tromso crosses desert turning around fjords or above with a short ferry passage. Every so often on the road is a service station with refreshments or a small group of houses. Tromso is a city situated on an island and connected to the mainland by a long bridge. I have around the modern city center until late at night without ever seeing the dark, because the sun never sets, then I slept in a small wooden casina to Camping on the mainland. The following day short tour of the city and transfer by bus to the Far North. Now the path is in open ground Lapp and occasionally you see some local resident dressed in clothing typical of this people. Between sea and mountains bare of vegetation, we arrive at a Motel High where I sleep. The next day, the bus drops me at Kalfjord and from there by ferry to the island of Mageroya where I find lodging in a luxury spa Casine wood. Here you lose the knowledge of the time, you never know when it is day and when it is night. Reach the North Cape, despite the movie being projected in the space center is only a symbolic destination because the northernmost point of Europe is shrouded in fog and do not see anything. Aspect, however, without a midnight sun and back to the village to sleep. The following day ferry to Kåfjord and overnight stay in Karasjok, the city considered for the Capital of Norwegian Lapps where you have to fight the insects in their thousands are trying to leap on people. To camp where I sleep in a cottage is almost impossible without star out to be highly annoyed by these little beings flying. The next morning I take the bus for Finland, which reached the border of Karigasniemi.
Do not miss this trip that offers unusual landscapes. North Cape is just the goal to be achieved but it is perhaps the least interesting part of the journey. A special report deserve Trontheim, the island of Vaeroy and the Mageroya. A Tour in Norway should also include the Lofoten islands and Vesteralen so I refer you with more details on the itinerary NORWAY Olympic Country.
