We had a to get up early at 8.15 to the Warsaw Central Railway Station, but then we rested comfortably in the wagon train. We crossed the plains of Poland and the long path to 140 per hour to 300 km that separate the Polish capital Warsaw, the former seat of Polish kings, the elegant Krakow. The tourism office, located inside the station, give us a map and tell us to take a taxi or bus does not serve the center and 5 minutes away. Again they were right. Within minutes we arrive at the ancient city walls and begin to enjoy the medieval charm of the city. There is certainly much more than tourism in Warsaw but the weather (weather) turns for the worse and loads of rain clouds hanging over the city. Let's hope so even if the hopes are dashed in the early afternoon. We arrived shortly at the Rynek Glowny or Market Square which is the largest medieval square in Europe with its 200 meters on each side. Within the square a lot of things but surely you will be struck from the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady and the smaller but certainly very pretty Church of Santa Barbara. To enter the basilica, there are two entrances: the main one is dedicated to the faithful and tourists to the side and you pay 6 PLN plus another 5 PLN if you want to take pictures. In any case, if you enter in the part dedicated to the faithful, of course, when there is no Mass, you'll see exactly the same things from a little farther. To know it was not paying ... On the square is a nice market with lots of stands selling Easter eggs colored wood, things to eat ... there is also a farrier. We head to Wawel Hill which is the hill where the Wawel Castle and Cathedral. Very nice well worth a visit because you can admire a beautiful panorama of the Vistula (Wisla) and the city from above. To join in the common parts of the Cathedral is not paid while you pay to see the castle (which, however, was partially closed for the Easter holidays). As we turn to the castle starts to rain .. a light rain that does not leave us more and that in reality with the passing of time will become increasingly intense, aided by 9 ° C the situation is almost winter ... that pizza! Then under our umbrella faithful back in the center and at 3 o'clock in the afternoon we sit in a Georgian restaurant to eat a kind of kekab beef and basmati rice topped with local cheeses. Very good and very cheap (we eat, drink a beer and close-to-head with a coffee paying about € 9). Time is running the train back is at 17.15 and then started going to the station reminding us to see some shops for some souvenir shops ... we had seen in the morning but at 4 pm, along the main street of Krakow perhaps given the time perhaps having Easter Monday ... closed! Good grief! Okay we are very bad we can not help it. We stay with a bitter taste because we did not see many things: the Jewish Quarter of Krakow (Kazimierz), the working-class district of the steel (Nowa Huta) not to speak of Auschwitz and finally to the salt mine ... but many short trips with our available time just could not do. We arrived in Warsaw on 20 and passed under a heavy rain we head toward the center, but complicated the time and maybe the last day of vacation restaurants are almost all closed in the historic center. The few open at 21.15 refuse to let us in despite the sign points to close at 23.00. So desperate that we go to the Irish pub propina some crap little Polish but still edible. We drink a few beers and then go away (because the air was stifling because you can smoke in public places).
