The ocean!!!!! Portugal trip

Long trip, my first trip! From Venice we arrived at over 3000 km from home. Destination: Portugal.
Portugal is a very poor country (at least in 1994), resemble the highways around our roads and the motorway and an abundance of clean goods leave much to be desired.
The first stop is Fatima. I am ashamed of the great esplanade near the cathedral, really huge, gigantic unospazio mainly when compared to the poverty I see around. Pilgrims who make the stretch of road to the church to ginocchioni with cloth tied to prevent bleeding, souvenirs shops dedicated to all things religious naive and poor compared with our Italian sanctuaries and then I hit the cold!
We are in August, at the hotel I see from the satellite tv that shows bathers and tourists accaldati and here there is need for a jacket because the air is crisp, as if we were in April!
We move then the next day to other destinations (though our headquarters is at Fatima): Batalha to see where the church, and especially mounumentale Nazaré that strikes me to the ocean!
It 'the first time that I see and feel I do not scratch so much. I know it is deeper, which is more agitated, but fully equal to my usual sea!
Nazaré is a very clean country, inhabited by fishermen. I see the signs as ceramics (the "azulejos) anywhere on the beach and long rows of anchovy harvest to dry. We know that trade is a typical Portuguese! On the sandy beach some tourists northern Europeans (German and Dutch) "dare" and even undress to bathe, but to me is really cool!
One positive note about food: very good, based mainly on fish. Negative: in the evening, because of the position, there is still a lot of light but if you get up around 7 and is something dark pesto!
When I was able to use the Italian lira and Spanish peseta without problems, now obviously the problem does not arise at all !!!!!
