Is there a place in Europe where people still moves with the carriage full of hay and children, where the churches are made of wood and have high pointed towers, where houses are preceded by large portals inlaid. There is a place inhabited by a people that is considered the most hospitable of the Old Continent, where people will open their home and the traveler is welcome. The Maramures, or like taking a step back in time and rimanrere in Europe, because here the old traditions are preserved, life is paced by religious holidays and still use ancient techniques work. Arrive on Sunday is a show about the Church because of the country or along the only road that goes through you will see men, women and children with their traditional dress, rich in gaudy costumes and rhinestone pon pon colored, flowered skirts for girls, belts pretentious and characteristic straw hats for boys. These costumes are not a folkloric aspect to the tourists but the daily lives of these people who close Gutii between the mountains and the border with Ukraine marked by tiza has retained this ethnographic who has no equals in Europe. But it must be soon to visit Maramures because the times are changing, more and more ships are being replaced by cars, the plows pulled by oxen from second-hand tractors, features wooden houses are plastered and churches alongside traditional rise anonymous places of worship of cement. There are two valleys which cross the region, that of the Iza River and the Mara River for both scattered villages that will amaze. The more you away from the main road you will find more villages intact. I have been so many times in Maramures, a place to which they are fiercely enthusiastic. In the extended sense is a Maramures County in Romania, which also includes the southern part of Monti Gutii where it found the capital Baia mare, a great city with a small historic center and the rural area around tirgu lapus. But the real Maramures, the town is on the other side. Coming down from the mountains meet Mara, desesti, sat sugatag, Giulesti, Berbesti, Feresti. Small deviations lead to Cornesti, Calinesti, Budesti, the baths of Ocna sugatag where pools of water is so salty that you are afloat, the mining village turned into a winter sports station of cavnic. A Vadu Izei is the junction for the other downstream, where the dell'Iza along the road passing through birsana which has a hill on a beautiful wooden monastery, strimtura, Rozalea, Dragomir. The only real city of the historical Maramures is the anonymous Sighetu Marmatiei with some Church and the former prison used by the Securitate of the Ceausescu for political dissidents. The city is lapped by the river that divides tiza Ukraine Slatina connected by a bridge recently reopened after years of hermetic closure. Sighetu Marmatiei from the road to the east leads to the mountains Rodnei until Viseu Borsa and through villages inhabited by Romanian or Ukrainian. Going west along the long course of tiza via sapinta resort that boasts a wooden church steeple dall'altissimo but especially the famous Cemetery cheerful. Here a local farmer, Ion Patras, has the carved wooden headstones of graves with epitaphs that retrace ironic satire in poetic life of the deceased. Moreover here the relationship to death is much more peaceful in all the villages of Maramures is celebrated Luminatia, the day dedicated to the dead in which all families get together to eat in the cemetery at the tomb in communion with the extinct . Another important moment in the life of this people is marriage, if you happen to see someone will be an unforgettable experience, do not hesitate to autoinvitarvi, you are welcome guests. The feast is often held at the Casa del Popolo, where you dine and dance for hours you wear the most beautiful costumes of their popular support. Dancing on the notes of a music unwritten, often improvised, accompanied by the beating of feet, whistling from the men, from the snap of the fingers. A fascinating land to visit before it is too late.
