Going to Athens: Belgrade and Nis
The journey made by car with friends, has been divided into different stories, according to the mentioned. The final destination of the trip is Greece, the different states of former Yugoslavia have been crossed to reach the peninsula of Greece.
- Thursday 28.07.83 Departure from Milan at 6.30 am to Venice. In Trieste in Italy last refuel and then Yugoslav customs. Let us first stop in Ljubljana for a packed lunch. At 20:00 we are already in Belgrade but we do not find a free hotel for which we have to continue another 15 km, dinner at hotel. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and is a large, modern city, is crossed by the river Sava and the Danube. The oldest part is located in the confluence of these two major rivers. Must see in Belgrade? to secure the National Museum, very rich and the Kalemegdan fortress built on a spike of rock that overlooks the confluence of the rivers
- Friday, 29.07.83 We start at 7:30 from the outskirts of Belgrade, we Nis, Skopje and Gevgelija. Nis: is located at the junction between Greece and Bulgaria and this has always resulted in a significant transit and trade. Sites are visited the Turks and Romans. The city was the center of many battles (Goths, Huns, Turks, etc.)
Lunch, still in Yugoslavia, but with very good steaks in a restaurant with table cloths worn by now. Ripartimao motorway and take and a fine on the motorway for speeding of 30 thousand pounds. Overcome the Greek customs, and we continue to Evzoni, then Thessaloniki, Katerini, Larissa, Volos and Lamia. Find hotels in Lamia. On the day we suffered a lot of heat.
