Small, splendid and... Unknown Bratislava, capital city of Slovakia
Only an hour of navigation along the Danube, and here the austere landscape of Vienna we find ourselves in a new dimension, the verdant landscape greets us in the quiet Slovakia.
Although extraordinarily close, these two cities have little in common ... As soon as the boat crosses the Slovak border here is that everything changes, no longer a gray industrial suburb but green hills and forests ... appears shortly after the city, rigidly divided into two areas demarcated by the river, a true boundary line. On one side the old town in pastel colors, and on the other, the modern style popular in the team, two different worlds.
The center of the city is quick visit on foot, at a glance does not involve elements of grandeur, except for the large rock that stands on the hill, nor famous sights ... but every corner, every street has a charm irresistible! To take advantage of the magic of this area ... by "tourists" should become .... "curious ".... ocher get lost in the alleys, squares and churches to meet in surprise, looking dolls houses that seem abandoned, enter taverns for an excellent dinner and slide rivers of beer while waiting for the inspiration for a new round.
Bronze statues placed nicely in some sides of the city seem to keep an eye on the few who choose to visit this little-known destination ... a funny character searches the passersby from a drain ... and others observe the movement of people in the main square, where a small market presents attractive local artefacts.
Bratislava is so close to us (and popular locations such as Vienna, Prague, Budapest), but does not feel the pressure of tourism and there are not many who are interested in this small town jewel-looking and nostalgic unchanged.
Just a little 'time to spare before the boat departed for Vienna, and here we decide to climb to the fortress from top to enjoy the panorama of red roofs and bell towers against the sky that gradually becomes covered with clouds .. . ... stamp on the passport (yes! in 2004 was not yet EU) and then on ... again in Austria ...
The links via river between Bratislava and the Austrian capital are very frequent and truly low cost, starting from the dock area Donauinsel in Vienna and two steps from the most attractive places in Bratislava, after all, the navigation of the Danube itself is a source of interest, boats glide slowly and allow you to enjoy all the beauty of the landscape and above .. a good dose of relaxation.
