In April 2004 we decided (I and Paola) to bring us for the first time in one of the Canary Islands, we believe that different from other, more full of contrasts ... Lanzarote.
After a quiet flight we arrived late in the evening at the airport of Lanzarote where we were picked up and taken to the hotel Barceló Costa Teguise (arrecife above) where we have booked at a price of 550 euros a week all inclusive (although we will not be at lunch never present). The Hotel is very big and very nice, spacious rooms, buffet food in abundance and discreet evening entertainment. The next morning we suffered the rental car for the remaining 6 days and begin our vacation to discover the beauty of the island. Lanzarote is about 60 km long and 15-20 wide, is often beaten by the winds, is of volcanic origin, the prices are much more affordable than our (gasoline cost 0.55 cents per liter). During our stay we visited the far north of the island the "Mirador del Rio" which is the highest point where you have a beautiful panoramic island Graciosa, I advise you not to enter (the cost was 5 euros), but to go slightly ahead 100-200 m. where you have the same view, but saving money. We then went to see the "Cueva de los Verdes" where there are small white crabs and other nice surprises, "Jamenos del Agua" built by the great artist Cesar Manrique Lanzarotegno famous throughout the world and the "Jardin de Cactus" an garden where there are hundreds of succulent plants in front of which stands a giant cactus of iron made by Manrique. We then passed through the area of ??"Haria" full of palm trees and hills that reach 600-650 m. height from where you can enjoy beautiful views and where you get to the beach of Famara, where the most windswept wind-sefisti the test themselves. We then saw "El Golfo" place that you can not miss because it comes from above on a jet-black volcanic beach where there is a protected species of pond-green because of algae and organisms inside. Close to "El Golfo", always on the coast are "Los Hervideros", is a series of black volcanic rocks that stand out on the sea and the pools that form tunnels and spraying water up as soon as the waves break, and the "Salinas de Janubio" composed of a series of salt ponds pink, white, red, purple because of the salt present and its drying. Within the island there are perhaps the most beautiful things to see, the "Geria" and the "Timanfaya National Park." The first is a beautiful area where local farmers have succeeded in the hills and plains of volcanic ash to build very special vineyards of creating holes inside which is placed a small vineyard that is well protected from the winds allows moisture to collect the necessary same vineyard. Here you can taste the wine in one of the many farms that produce wine and feel that it is infused with the taste of ashes .... amazing how the landscape! The second (Timanfaya Park) is the result of an eruption that lasted 6 years in 700 and completely devastated the island. An one point entered the park seems to be on the moon, there is no nothing, just wash and wash again with small mountains that are volcanoes that erupted 300 practice. Here before you do the tour bus with the most beautiful part of the park (Mountains del Fuego) we decide to do a short riding a camel in the park. After this pleasant experience going to the park entrance where we take a bus to turn it .... beautiful! We are then shown throwing straw into a deep hole that just one meter below ground there are still 400-500 degrees, which means that there is still seismic ctivities, and then water is thrown into a hole and immediately gets a splash Steam 4-5 meters high. With regard to the areas most beautiful beaches are the Teguise coast with its beautiful white beaches of "Las Cucharas" and always white beaches of "Papagayo" in Playa Blanca from where many ferries to Fuerteventura. Are also beautiful beaches Quemada and the country of Puerto del Carmen where you can enjoy some good fish restaurants overlooking the sea. A brief mention should be made about the true character of Cesar Manrique, the island thanks to him because it was decided to build only white houses on the subject with the environment and not more than 2 floors. There are his architectural constructions everywhere (Monumento al Campesino) and his work in the "Fundacion Manrique" where is his house that deserves to be seen. The city of Arrecife is the capital of the island, is the most populous and chaotic mo there is nothing special to see, while inside there are many villages that are worth a stop on the route by car, eg. Teguise, Tahiche, San Bartolome.
In conclusion, the island truly deserves to be visited, now I hope to put photos on CD so I can testify better than what i have spoken.
Greetings to all. aldo
