Almost by accident and contrary to our purpose that it takes holed up at home during the last year, we decided to make a hit and run in Zurich. We plan your trip by train, using the legendary Swiss railways (which so different from Italian ones, for good and bad, are not). However, crossing the central Svizzerea, with its meadows, lakes and mountains is a unique, sometimes even more beautiful than what we saw in our travels in Scandinavia.
The old town of Zurich is very large, for much of the pedestrian and stretches out on the left and right banks of a river that flows into the lake soon. The right side (starting from the station) is dedicated to Banofstrasse, the famous shopping mile Switzerland (but it's really long "only" 1.2 km) with the usual of the usual big-name fashion boutiques, department stores and some chocolate that, unequivocally, recall to be in Switzerland. The left side, where we stayed, however, represents a somewhat 'more history with a plethora of restaurants of all ethnicities, and of course there are the traditional Swiss imagine where you eat good raclette, fondue and rosti. I say imagine because he never managed to find a hole. In return we visited a few Italian restaurants that there were in Italy for quality food, service and hospitality. well as prices, knowing where you are, are affordable.
The New Year's Eve, the city was closed to traffic and turns into a big street party with thousands of people flooding onto the streets at every corner there are orchestras that play music for all tastes, as well as stalls offering food and drink from around the world. At midnight, on the lake, it takes a huge fireworks display offered by the hotels of the city, all in the chaotic atmosphere of celebration necessarily, but, never, we had the feeling of being in danger, without seeing a single man of the forces of ' order.
We suggest finally, for those of us who has had the time, a visit to the Swiss National Museum, in a beautiful castle behind the station. Even for those not fond of museums, this well describes the evolution of the Swiss people and culture, without ever being boring.
