Travel has always been my passion. I have toured the world but of the little that I have seen, London is the city that has fascinated me most. So much to convince me to come back every year, if only for a week-end.
London has a reputation for the city rather expensive and at the bottom is true, but you can easily save money by using some trick, and maybe some good advice as to who's already been.
To give you a practical example, the last time I managed to spend € 50 for the flight to / r, tax included, with ryan air (if you can peck the offer from € 0.99 you spend less) and € 45 for two nights in a hostel in Sherwood Street, near Piccadilly Circus (www.piccadillyhostel.com). To eat, given the relatively high prices of restaurants and to avoid the usual mcdonald, I recommend a salad of chicken from KFC, pasta salad or a baguette from Pret a Manger or the sandwiches from Tesco. In some areas, such as Camden Town, is full of chioschetti where cook Chinese, Thai or Mexican. If you want to relax in the evening the luxury of spending a little 'more, you may dine in the pub (but not later than 20:30-21:00) or in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.
There is much to be seen, then depends on what interests you more, if the cultural side, or that some 'more' frivolous' in London ( "frivolous" does not want to be absolutely a dispregiativo, but ...). Regarding the first category I would advise "the classics":
- British Museum (free admission)
- National Gallery (free admission)
- Tate Modern (free admission)
- Tower of London (£ 13.50, but that is all)
- A look at the facade of Buckingham Palace and even the changing of the guard (free)
- Big Ben and Houses of Parliament (still outside)
- Westminster Abbey (fee but can not remember the price of the ticket)
- The permanent exhibition of Salvador Dali
instead for shopping and entertainment:
- Portobello Market
- Camden Market
- Harrod's
- London Eye (£ 11 for 30 min of panoramic tour)
- The wax museum Madame Tussaud's (expensive, but can not remember the price, very good)
- London Aquarium (£ 11)
- Hyde Park, Regent's Park and Green Park.
- Covent Garden
To move from one location to another can be used safely by public transport (double bus and subway) pass very often and are comfortable. Tickets can be bought at vending machines or branches that are located at metro stations.
Regarding the transfer of Stanstead airport to the city center, there are two alternatives:
- The buses, which take about 1h 30 'to Victoria Station (about £ 10 a / r)
- The Stansted Express (€ 35 a / r) to Liverpool Station in 40 min.
From Heathrow, however, you can take the subway directly, if not mistaken the Victoria Line.
I hope to be comprehensive and not too repetitive. In case you need any information, do not hesitate to contact me. Enjoy London!
