On the road trip to Scotland, United Kingdom northernmost country

TRIP DETAILS: Trip arranged entirely via the Internet. We flew with EasyJet, booked car with Europecar. The cost of flight (200 €), car rental (200 €) and nights (270 €) was 700 € per person. We set out four.
STAY: We stayed in B & Bs and hostels.
INSTRUMENTS: We used a map of Scotland, the Via Michelin site (to calculate distances) and guides to the Lonely Planet Mondadori and to organize everything from home. Since we have done everything in the car were equipped with Navigator (Verman key).
DA Do not forget: parka, scarf, umbrella or kway and insect repellent.
FOOD: the Scottish food is excellent, I highly recommend. Fish, meat, soups and vegetables are excellent. There are also great dishes such as pudding, haggis. etc. ... Not recommend to try the pasta and authentic Italian cuisine, you can do but not all the locals.

 

Arrival in Scotland!

Departure from Milan at 12.05, arriving in Edinburgh at 14.15 local time. After having collected your luggage go to rent a car. (Advice to the total insurance with deductible acopertura 0, dirt roads and the animals set free could be a problem, better protected.). We go straight to Edinburgh, because we wanted to visit in the future and dedicate a weekend, and we head for Perth. En route we stop to visit Loch Level, where there is a castle on an 'island in the middle of the lake. We can only admire from the shore because the last race of the day was already gone. Arriving in Perth try out our accommodation, Petra's B & B. In these situations the browser is very utile.Ci found in front of a classic white house with a garden in bloom! The location is perfect, just outside the center. In fact just placed our things in the splendid rooms do a walk through the center of Perth. Before seeking a place where we eat a ride to downtown to visit the historical attractions (the cathedral). Then guide the hand (Looney Planet) we find with difficulty (since it's Saturday and started the football league) a restaurant called KERACHERS. Here we sample some potutto duck, salmon and various desserts. A very chic place, where everyone is very friendly, good value for money because they charge by the number of dishes that you order. When you find this formula, you should eat at least two dishes apiece as the single dish is more expensive. After dinner do not miss the poteve cappatina drinking whiskey and beer in a traditional Scottish pub. We have stopped at Dickens, pubs all in wood with reference to the homonym book writer. This concludes our first day in Scotland.

SECONDO GIORNO

Ore 7.30 sveglia!!! Per casa c'è un invitante odore di cibo. Ore 8.00 tutti a tavola per l'abbondate colazione alla Scozzese rigorosamente preparata dalla padrona di casa! Il piatto è cosi composto: uovo fritto, 2 salsiccie, 2 fette di bacon, mezzo pomodoro grigliato , funghi, fagioli e black pudding. Il tutto contornato da un buffet con latte, cereali, toast, burro, marmellate, succo di frutta, caffe e the a volontà!!! Fatto il carico di energia partiamo con le visite ai castelli della zona, in biglietteria decidiamo di acquistare un biglietto unico (Treasure Ticket) che ci consente l'ingresso in diversi castelli della zona (Blair Castle - Scone Palace - Glamis Castle - The famous Grouse Expirience - Bell's Blair athol distillery) al modico prezzo di £ 18.00 per persona (molto conveniente se si pensa che ogni singolo castello costerebbe £8.00).
Iniziamo il nostro tour con lo SCONE PALACE, pieno di stanze arredate tutte spiegate con tavole descrittive anche in italiano. All'esterno uno splendido giardino dove si trova anche un labirinto di siepi.
Seconda tappa GLAMIS CASTLE: la visita al castello è guidata a gruppi di 30 persone. la guida è inglese ma consegnano un manuale in italiano. Molto bello come castello, stanze arredate, grandi giardini da visitare e atmosfera creata da dei suonatori di cornamusa che girano nei giardini!
Terza tappa BELL'S BLAIR ATHOL DISTILLERY: anche qui si entra a gruppi e una guida molto simpatica spiega tutto il procedimento per ottenere il wischy e fa visitare tutta la distilleria (in ogni stanza ci sono cartelli che spiegano il tutto anche in italiano). Finito il giro si fa tappa al negozietto dove fanno degustare il loro prodotto. La distilleria è molto bella e merita una sosta.
Quarta tappa BLAIR CASTLE: un castello molto bello, famoso per la sua stanza della caccia, che è la prima stanza che si incontra. La visita in questo castello è libera e in ogni stanza ci sono i fogli descrittivi in tutte le lingue. Concludiamo il nostro giro nella sala da ballo... altra stanza che ci lascia stupefatti!! Concluso il Tour interno passeggiamo nei giardini che offrono mille attività all'aperto ( giro del castello a cavallo, recinti con animali, parchi giochi ecc..).
Finito il nostro Tour ci dirigiamo ad Aviemore, piccola cittadina montana molto frequentata in inverno da appassionati di sport invernali. Qui abbiamo prenotato una camera da quattro allo Youth Hostel. Un ostello molto pulito e confortevole anche se la colazione non è compresa. Vista la buona posizione dell'alloggio andiamo a piedi a visitare la città per trovare un posto carino in cui mangiare. Ci fermiamo allo Skii-ing doo, locale moloto carino e particolare gestito da uno spagnolo che propone piatti internazionali. Concludiamo la serata in un pub sulla strada che porta all'ostello.
