This was my tenth trip to London and then I chose the special sites to visit.
We left with Ryan Air, we spent about £ 600 per person for 6 days and we visited Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Salisbury, Oxford and London.
We left my daughter and I with a Ryanair flight from Ciampino Airport to Gatwick. Quiet flight, landing a little 'less because of the gusts of wind that made the air vibrate much. From the airport we took a train in half an hour took us to Victoria Station. Fast!
At Victoria Station have purchased the Travel card for zone 1 and 2, which cost us 26 pounds and has allowed us to get on and off buses, underground and overground train all week and every time we wanted.
The first day of stay we went to Holland Park, Kyoto to visit the gardens. From the name we understand that they are Japanese gardens. The morning was sunny and the gardens are nothing short of wonderful, even in mid-January. Must see.
After the Kyoto gardens we went back to Piccadilly Circus, and we started to roam the streets around Piccadilly Street to see the wonderful shops that are there. We found a great shop with Italian products, managed by a very good Italian boy named Manuel. The shop is called The workshop and is in 20 Ryder Street, and we ate real Italian products, cooked by Italian and very little money. We have been so satisfied that we go back to eating three more times.
In the afternoon we went to visit Temple Church in Inner Temple Lane. This church is very special, the plant has inspired the Church of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and is composed of two parts: the oldest, known as Round, was consecrated by the patriarch of Jerusalem in 1185 while the other, called the Chancel, was added in the thirteenth century. In amazement are the stone effigies of nine knights templar-size placed in the round. In this temple, Dan Brown has set several scenes of his famous book "The Da Vinci Code."
After the visit we went to go shopping at Marble Arch PrimeMark As usual we are out envelopes full of credit card and emptied.
The next day, wake up early and ran to catch the train at Waterloo Station.
Destination Salisbury and the temple of Stonehenge.
After an hour's train ride through the green English countryside, we arrive at the station in Salisbury. Just outside there is a bus for the modest sum of 18 pounds and then brings us to the temple at Old Sarum. The bus leaves every hour during the winter and every half hour during the summer, and the price includes the entrance fee to the temple and the audio guide.
We go up and after just 20 minutes journey, finally we spot the temple of Stonehenge. Emotion is great, I can finally set foot in that mystery which is the amazing temple of blue stones.
We go down and after having collected the audio guide begin the path that runs around the circle of stones. The day is cold but the sun is beautiful. I have never seen such a day as bright as the one I found at Stonehenge. For an hour we saw the circle of stones, the moat, and heard the explanations. But the questions remain: What is Stonehenge? Why was it built there? And by whom?
In short, despite the audio guide gives a lot of information, unfortunately the essential ones no one can give this to you.
We return to the bus with all the still unanswered questions in my head, and we arrive at Old Sarum.
At Old Sarum I had a surprise. Although I had read a book on the history of Sarum, I did not expect a site so beautiful and interesting. I let myself captivated by the history of this ancient village and discover that I wanted to never end. Unfortunately, nothing is forever, and then we had to go down to the bus stop to return to Salisbury. Our driver was punctual and after 10 minutes we arrived at the center of Salisbury, and we went down to Market Square. We chilled up refuge in a very nice pub set in one of the oldest houses of Salisbury, and we ordered a cup of tea and a slice of pecan pie and carrots. We licking his whiskers.
Warmed and fed, we headed to see the magnificent cathedral, which houses four copies of the Magna Carta. The visit to the cathedral requires at least two hours, for all the things that are preserved and to admire the amazing architecture.
After the visit, had been done late afternoon, we gave a quick look at the streets of downtown and then we headed to the station to catch the train to London.
The next morning, we headed to Paddington Station from where we took a train to Oxford, where my daughter wants to choose the university.
The purpose of this trip, it was just to take a look at the city and ask for the colleges to choose from.
Just outside the station is the bus stop, where we took the bus for tours seethings. The tours last an hour and we made an idea of ??the city. Then we went back to the station and from there we started our tour staff. We visited several colleges and we have also included visiting the shop of Alice in Wonderland, the botanical garden, and the pub where Lewis Carroll and Edward Rutherfurd met to discuss their books.
In the evening we took the train and tired we returned to London.
The next day, we stayed in London and we spent our day at the market Borough market where you can taste and buy typical British products, but also those of other countries in the world. And 'the market where they source the most famous restaurants. It 'must-see.
For lunch we went back to the shop, and we ate an excellent baked pasta and a slice of cake to finish her grandmother. What a delicious must.
In the afternoon we went to Oxford Street, as the common tourists, however, we have limited shopping, having no place in the bags for other purchases.
The last day we get up with little desire to make the tourists and then we cuddled by a good breakfast black coffee at lunch and then back to "the shop". After lunch we packed his bags and headed to Victoria Station to catch the train and go to the airport.
The next trip is booked in April.
