12. 11. 2008 Doha (Qatar)

Doha airport is a hub for the Far East poor. 90% of people who land here are only in transit and headed for India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka etc..
We in Qatar! We recall that the famous broadcaster "Al Jazeera" forward from here, beyond that I do not know what else could make this little known land surrounded by desert and founded on oil ...

[Nick]: After a quick meal at McDonald's we launched the "Corniche", a boulevard that runs along the Persian Gulf ... At some point we encounter a fish market pulled up at that time by local fishermen ...

Doha. A city where there is practically nothing. A long trail with lots of palm trees where jeepponi 4000 Diesel these Arabs are bread for their teeth and even cross the road becomes problematic.

Qatar: Qatari a place where they rest and enjoy the good life their hookahs and the rest of the population (Nepalese, Indians and people of Bangladesh and Eritrea) does the rest of things, ie: everything! Every person I met along my way, out of curiosity, I always wondered where it came from ... no one ever responded: Qatar!

I have to ask: "In Qatar, there is a local population?"
The only thing that struck me was seeing the fishermen, just back from fishing expedition, sell large and delicious fish in the middle of the night, lit by large torches along the coastline. They were surrounded by those white ghosts with their many wives veiled black ... bought, bargained, weighing scales with old ... Very quaint and romantic too ...
Too bad that my knee continued to torment me ... For the record: last week in Italy, during a soccer game I hurt and I am yet again ...

13. 11. 2008 Doha (Qatar)

To this day there we set a few points ... but confused!

Let's get started with the national museum, although it seems deserted ...
I approach a guard who, awakened from sleep, a little 'surprised by my presence, let's say that I do not camouflage well among the local population, she says that the museum is closed!
"Oh, okay. When do you open? "-" No, do not open! "-" Okay, tomorrow and what time? "-" No, it does not open. "
First point: ok! Let us further.

Point two of our program includes: Visit to the City Center. The heart of every great city! After several information requested here and there and many steps later, Nick manages to find a lift in a refrigerator with four wheels ... A bit 'hesitant accept ... Let's hope so ... But the suspicion is quickly silenced by this nice guy who accompanies us to our destination: a shopping center called "City Center"! What a disappointment! A shopping center with even a very Western field hockey ... and we were looking inside the city center!
Wander in the great Mall often encountering ghosts whites or blacks dominoes until we decide to go to step three: the Post Office.

We are told that from here, a taxi costs about 5 riyal (1 Euro), good! But when the taxi driver asks us see there 30!
At the end still managed to reach our destination in our own way ...
The post office was huge and packed with people. I think it's the only one in town, very elegant and Arabic! He has served a shy girl ... When ricapiterà Oman sail area to send a postcard from here?

One thing I noticed was that there were not many mosques in Doha and muezzim has felt only a couple of times sing the suras of the Koran ... I have the impression as if Islam were not here this time! It 'really true that flourishes where there is misery and poverty, there seem more interested in making money and just ...

Section four provides a jump to the Arab world's most famous TV: "Al Jazeera"!
What an adventure to get there but ...

We decide to go in our bus ... waiting begins ... The thermometer marks 40 degrees in the shade and we, inside the bus stop, all in glass, we feel like two chickens in a microwave ...
We wait ... wait ... wait ... Sometimes we exchange two tired talking, or rather, gestures, the Nepalese construction worker who shares with us this long wait ... when finally, after over an hour, our bus takes sighed ... but the driver tells us we are in the wrong place!
Sweaty and demoralized decide to take the first taxi company other useful ...!
When we succeed, we discover that our goal was, in fact, only one kilometer away from where we were ...

A little 'as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, waiting for the adventures we plummet him, we see a hole in the fence hyper subsidiary of Arab TV ... we decide to slip inside ... we had not ever done ...

Fortunately someone there to love us and once again we escaped, but the fear ...

By taxi we approach the area of our hotel and we stop for a drink in a bar overlooking the fishermen romantic Persian Gulf ... sip a Coke while around us, the Qatari smoke blessed their "deserved" hookah! The sun in this country ... uninteresting

We decide to dine in a Jordanian restaurant ... these things alive only when travel adventure! Restaurant in Petra, we were over the Egyptians, Nepalese construction workers watched us curiously and said hello!

It 's time to bring us to the airport. In the middle of the night we have our flight to Hong Kong!

As I noted my last thoughts on my diary I thought my friends in Italy who were preparing for Saturday night while I was Italian: dirty, tired and sweaty I plunge into the unknown and mysterious heart of Arab life, enchanted by everything around me ...

[Nick]: Note on Mark. Not demoralized never, even in an empty city like this! We managed to go well this adventure will remain the same and also in the luggage of our experiences!
