TRAVELERS: CAT Caterina, TEO Matthew (18 months), Davide DVD
DURATION: 22 days (3-24 September 2008)
RESERVATIONS: All reservations have been do-it-yourself using the amazing and endless baskets of the Internet.
VOLO1: airtransat.it (rome-rome Toronto-booked online € 1158 A / R). we found that they return to same. discrete meals to exotic connotation (pork in sweet-sour way, tandoori chicken back). if you are traveling with a child under two years and book via the web, leave the option of choice seats (fee), check-in will give you (usually) a 5 row (the first after the business) of the slightly more spacious normal file.
VOLO2 we excluded Alitalia (direct flight to Toronto), British Airways (via London) and Air France (via Paris) for costs and significantly higher for the intermediate points that significantly increase the duration of the trip.
JET LAG: we can not say that I too have suffered as read in many reports. to our arrival, 14:30 local, we have not rested and we have turned aimlessly states to keep awake. the evening we went to bed very early (20:00) just taking the local rhythm. our return, 09:30 local, we granted three hours of sleep in the afternoon as the flight was sleepless night and then again the local rhythm. TEO (18 months): the kids are not unscrupulous and when they are tired they sleep! avoided afternoon nap too long so that they get a little tire in the evening. we did so, and all things went well.
B & B: bbcanada.com (great site for finding B & B) and TripAdvisor.com for a cross-check information
RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS B & B: no smoking inside, private bathrooms, no pet (authorized representative), allows children bring (obviously!), Accepts Visa & Amex, Double-Twin-Queen-King beds types (comfortable to sleep all three), parking availability .
CAR: alamo.com. calling the toll free number 199151120 Maggiore will provide estimates of Alamo (all included), and National (base bid less than Alamo, but extra costs for insurance coverage: discarded). Alamo with the price quoted is the final one that avoids the usual "counter" to the bench that complements what is not covered above, also not be underestimated element not required (for reservations) the number of credit card (obviously at the time left Pick of the vehicle. we paid € 789.07 for 17 days with no relief including theft, damage including without excess, free additional drivers 3, 1 full of free gas (in practice, we returned the car without gasoline). us have a PT Cruiser "automatic" rather dirty and "surf" but in the end has done its duty.
NAVIGATOR: we have not taken into rent, in our view not useful. some prints made from google maps and two nice maps purchased on the spot were more than enough to go anywhere.
GUIDE: Mondadori (Canada), Rough Guides (Québec Ontario). We decided not to take over the Lonely Planet as repeatedly disappointed by the quality of information and typographical errors coarse. at the end of the journey we have a little think on Lonely and have also verified that two rails are too many. perhaps even the leadership in itself is useless. from the internet and especially by the many tourist centers you can get all the information you need for your trip.
KM ROUTES: 3295 km
IDEAS PATH: Hotelplan and Kuoni to get an idea of starting on the path to go. viaggiscoop.it (obviously) and turistipercaso.it for reports and recommendations of who was there before us.
PRACTICAL INFO: bonjourquebec.com
AUTOSTRADE & LIMITS: limits on motorways are not below 60 kmh and above 100 kmh. 100 kmh will exceed all of 110 kmh over there many, at 120 kmh you are not the only eye but that the controls are there and often you see police cars on the side of the street (we are limited to 110 mh). the quality of highways is lower than our average, but the difference is that they are totally free!
TIPPING / SERVICE: 10% to 15% over the same account, there is no escape, is the rule, including taxi drivers. at a little annoying because someone asks them explicitly. Once accepted, the mechanism becomes automatic (such as barter on the price in Asian and African countries).

COMMENTI AL Perorsa: 5 nights in Quebec are too many. We have entered a little to slow the pace and not stress too TEO a bit because we thought to find a different city (Quebec we liked). with hindsight we recommend 2 / 3 nights (no more) to Quebec, 1 extra night in Toronto (by far the town that we liked more) and 1 night in Niagara on the Lake to see the waterfalls illuminated at night. the transition to the Gaspé Peninsula has not been taken into account.

THANKS a CAT for his fundamental contribution in the preparation and conduct of this beautiful journey
THANKS to TEO for his sympathy, his perennial good humor and his strong reaction to changes that made all the more enjoyable our long journey
