Practical Informatons for a do-by-yourself trip to New York, United States
Località:
New YorkStato: UNITED STATES (US)
It was in our dreams for a long time to visit this city. What better time to visit if not Christmas? We take advantage of the long bridge of the Immaculate Conception and St. Ambrose and adding a few days of vacation leave for a week. The flight is long, but worth the trip! The tickets we have purchased well in advance via the internet.
We relied on that Lufthansa was offering tickets to / ra € 337 per person including taxes with a stopover in Monaco of Bavaria. For the hotel we looked a bit 'reviews on the Internet and we opted for a solution with a bathroom in the peninsula of Manhattan.
Before entering the country was necessary, in accordance with international standards for entry without a visa, according to the procedure ESTA register through this link:

the procedure is very simple and in all languages. He was released after an authorization number.
You must have an address in the country for at least the first night's stay. Must be brought to the form.
NIGHT
The choice on offer in this city is really wide, it all depends on budget and the comfort you choose. There are hostels, large hotels and the middle class.
What we have chosen belonged to the last category mentioned above, it was cheaper (NY), U.S. $ 116 per night with breakfast, clean and above all with private bathroom. Thing in cheap hotels (for the standard of New York) is hard to find. We were very close to Union Square and outside the hotel was the subway. This is the website of:

The only negative note, there was no elevator.
SHIFTS
There are various combinations of Metrocard for durability, cost, type of means of transport and travel issues.

For a week we have chosen the unlimited transport (metro only) at a cost of $ 27 each. It is very useful in my opinion because the city is so vast that you can move only on foot. We certainly cushioned!
To reach Manhattan from the airport taxis charge a fixed fee. From JFK are $ 45 plus 5 toll.
MUSEUMS - ATTRACTIONS
There are two different access pass to the museums / attractions with discounts and avoiding the queues:
The CityPass, purchased from us, which allows access to six attractions and is valid for nine days with a price of $ 79:

The New York Pass, which includes admission to almost all attractions and discounts at the price of which varies depending on the day purchased:

CREDIT CARDS - ATMS
Have not always worked well, depended on the ATM and various shops. You can not rely on a single ATM or on a single credit card. The only paper that we have not had any problems was the AMEX.
Cash is hardly in use, even for small amounts is used by all the paper. Even the stalls of the Christmas markets can have, many shops and hotels within them have even an ATM!
