I've never been a big fan of the sea, but I was persuaded easily than one week in Hawaii could be done. In fact you could do ... also because Hawaii is not only absolutely a place of sea..

from San Francisco to Honolulu

After the usual 11 hours of flight we arrive in California, but this time we do not stop, and after waiting a bit 'too long we leave for Oahu, the island of Honolulu. Another five hour or evening flight and we are in the capital. There are 12 hours difference than Italy, but we were very tired. Will be 30 degrees, oil sea noise you hear from our hotel in Waikiki, but instead of going to sleep we go out to dinner even if the 22 sonogià premises. A couple of hours around a first burger not very Hawaiian, and then we are ready for a nap.

Pearl Harbor and Honolulu

Although the beaches are inviting, beautiful walk after dawn on the sand, we decided to devote the day to visit Pearl Harbor, the port of the Japanese place on 7 December 1941. We arrive by public transport, which is not recommended because the bus stops every 10 meters and to make us want more than 7 miles an hour, but the visit is beautiful. You see the boat carrier USS Arizona, sunk over a thousand sailors in 20 feet of water. It became a national monument, touching a place that marks our first day in Hawaii. In the afternoon we return to Waikiki, where we dedicate ourselves to the first swim in warm clear waters of the Pacific. In the evening really good dinner in Chinatown. But it was not a Chinese restaurant ...

The next day, already tired of the bus, rent a car and we begin to turn the island. Which is very small, and it shows practically all in one day. There is also time to enjoy the beaches, the beautiful Sunset, but not less than the others. We also bathe in a freshwater pond with a waterfall in Paumala Pupukea Forest Reserve. It seems a dream, but it is not. At night, sunburned and tired, we return to Honolulu. The next morning we fly to Big Island

Half-hour flight and we're in Hilo, one of the two largest cities of the island. It is very hot, there's very few people around, really seems to be far far from the usual sightseeing. This island is different from Oahu, is volcanic, has many beaches very black, you see jets of lava into the ocean and throw in some places, during bathing, is more likely to encounter a huge turtle that a human being. And 'beautiful island, which bears many traces of the culture of the indigenous Hawaiian and Polynesian. Obviously, especially in the leeward coast to the north, there are also beautiful beaches of white sand. Unable to resist and not go swimming in the blue and warm.

After sleeping in Captain Cook, south west of the island, a b & b pretty neat (Dathird), we move further north, in the Waipa Valley, where we sleep in another bed & breakfasts decidedly very beautiful (Waipa Wayside). The area here is green, it rains a lot and it shows. Raining on our heads. Before we get visited Kona, another pretty town, with restaurants and shops. Virtually no people around there. Waipa way down to Hilo, meet some fantastic valleys, waterfalls (Akaki and Rainbow Falls), rocky coasts and sea screaming. Hilo is a place a bit 'freak, where you happen to meet people detail. But the atmosphere is always very friendly, although the heat and humidity, at least for me, are too strong. Daniela, however, in this climate is fine. On the evening of 24 aircraft brings us back to Honolulu, where we share about San Francisco. We arrive in California on Sept. 25 at 6 am. Is about to start the second part of the trip, 17 days long. But that's another story
