Byron Bay - Australia travel diary

As has been said Coffs Harbor was left with a night bus at a time of Byron Bay, but not what we told is that this bus was actually very night. In fact the distance between the two locations is quite short, about four hours, which are certainly not sufficient to cover the entire night. The bus departed at 03:20 am dall'isolatissima station Coffs Harbor, but we reached at 9:00 the night before, now when was the last free pass by the hostel. On reaching the station we were clever to find a decent place to crush a nap while the bus. We have identified a soft grass on which to rest our sleeping bags and we tried to sleep. What has proved unworkable thanks to the presence of mosquitoes and insects of various kinds. Rejected this option, you are directed to the chairs of the station where we spent the remaining hours in the most strange and disjointed in constant company of huge cockroaches and arrogant ... perhaps they also had to turn the night bus to save some 'money!

At first light of dawn we were in Byron Bay, the city of "alternate". Many people had suggested we make a stop in this place because besides being the most east of Australia is also a favorite destination for neophytes surf. Also in the past has been the mecca of refuge and "flower children" from across Australia gathered in this place. Too many reasons not to dedicate a week of our stay in the land of kangaroos!

The only drawback to this beautiful city was the price exorbitant, to say the least ... This in fact we were already aware, and so we opted to settle in a camp and finally to use our tent. That done, we dropped by bus directly to the camping area and fortunately we made the center the first time. Truly dedicated to the pitches tents were very Spartan and the place was completely devoid of trees and then comes incredible to think of spending an entire week under the burning sun of Australia in a plastic tent! But as we told we were lucky: The camp also offered economic booths new bill, a kind of prefabricated blocks, with the tin roof and walls in plaster-carton. Sure to hear these words you may think that they were a sort of prison, but inside the cabin was very comfortable, even with TV and refrigerator. What do you want more!

Exceeded the accommodation problem, we have directed towards the center to get an idea of the place and put something in your teeth. Our first concern was to find a place in which to do our daily expenses, secondly, as our stay in Australia was coming to an end, we had to think how to spend the last week rimastaci. The idea that long since we had milk shakes head in only one: Fraser Island. With this conviction we proceed directly to the travel agency to see if our budget was able to satisfy our desires. It was not easy to bring the two things and not tell the truth we did; budget exceeded one hundred euro, but how do we go to Australia and not visit Fraser island? After long and exhausting negotiations, especially with our conscience, we purchased the tour to the island of sand largest in the world. We must also thank Michael, the bold young man who worked into the travel, because it offered the package with the opportunity to visit a town Nimbin / refuge for the last "flower children" who have stayed in Australia. In addition to this the beautiful Michele has also given us a good meal to be consumed at Cheeky monkey, the local-meeting for all the backpackers in the city

Finished shopping with empty pockets and the tail between the legs, we returned to our cabin to enjoy the ocean waves and to study for the next riding.

The next day we spent at the beach to bask in the sun to dispose of all the tensions accumulated. And so it was even for the days elapsed between the beach and sea with the aim of saving as much as possible in view of Fraser Island.

E 'then the time to play the card Nimbin: at ten o'clock in the morning we waited in front of a bus at the central station to lead initially to Bungalow (a small town near Nimbin), to visit a nice outdoor marketplace, and then all'agognata goal. The day was wonderful, a scorching sun on a crystalline sky, windows down, radio on the ball and the wind in your hair. Nimbin we reached in an hour, between green valleys and hills bristly, the city was really basic, the only building housed a bar, a supermarket, a local art gallery and a museum dedicated to the "flower children" now retired . In fact, the city was founded as a refuge for all those young people who wanted to escape from the call to arms and live an alternative life. Now the country he lives only with memories and the few remaining hippies are almost all on sunset boulevard. Another reason that still holds the high interest in this town (especially for some tourists) is the ability to buy and consume unlimited amounts of soft drugs. It must be clear that this is not a real legalization supported by the state, but to every corner of the street there was someone who offered you the "cookies" (technical term with which they identified the pre-dose).
And so it passed the day in Nimbin, finished with a delicious barbecue in the green hills overlooking the city.

The following day, and the last, we could not avoid again ride the waves of the great ocean. This time the place was the right one, given that all the labeled as the ideal location for learning the art of surfing.
Even the tables were the right ones ... question of "long board, long boards of more than two meters in which was much easier to pounce on their feet.

It was so that young people used to eat polenta and fog, they managed to have their brief but intense moment of glory!
