Coffs Harbour - Australia travel diary

We left Sydney in the late evening, just about ten and a half. There were also many other bus during the day but we preferred to travel at night for a simple reason: the usual money! One night in a night bus means less in hostel ... Although we do not save!

Arrived at its destination at dawn, we waited until we were decent hour to start the usual round of phone calls and finding accommodation. In fact we already had the name of a hostel, but we did not know what could be the reliable source that he had provided. In fact, after about an hour, even without our phone, it was presented in front of the bus stop, the van usually of backpackers that reads characters in banner: "Barracuda" ... was exactly what we were looking for! We arrived exhausted to the room, but also hungry, and so we rushed to the nearest supermarket to go shopping. Unfortunately they were not yet eight, and the market was closed. We strascinato the front foot for about half an hour until they finally open. For the first time in our lives we were the first customers of the day, there was not anyone else. Food taken from the fever, we granted a super mega cake that visa expired the next day was PIZAZZ! Devoured breakfast, straight to bed, but the celebration did not last long because after no more than an hour for the hostel staff we came to sbrandare to the sound of screams because he was starting one of the activities planned for the day: the jump from the quay of the city. We really still asleep and with our English maccheroni had not understood that it was a jump of six meters in a vacuum ... we learned later, with no small wonder. It was really great, and the sea was really blue. Two steps to overcome the protective railing and then vacuum. A two and three, not to think and clear your mind, close your eyes and fly ... a great rush of adrenaline that has awakened us from our torpor.

Coffs harbor can not be regarded as a city too interesting: the center is really quite limited and that if sonnacchioso accompanied by a virtually non-existent nightlife make it a place where you can spend no more than three or four days.

In fact we were stopped there because Coffs Harbor is also known as the land of bananas, because there are endless plantations. He recalled that there is also a super mega giant banana that welcomes you at the entrance to town. I do not know why but this banana is quite famous ... is also mentioned in the books, but in reality has not really anything interesting. But back to us ... we decided to stop in this city to find work in the collection of bananas in order to gain some 'of money and can afford to do some other stage in Australia, towards the north. Bad luck wished that the season of harvest had yet to begin ... vabbè and will be for another time.

The interesting thing was the accommodation possibilities of using surfboards for free ... have realized their good? For free! And there seems to us that we could have a chance to escape so juicy? Obviously no

The following day after a hearty breakfast, we embrace the tables and we were directed towards the ocean. For a little we heard of the real surfers ... we were really happy, super ringalluzziti from that table brought under his arm. But once the feast lasted just ... put the table in the water we have come up against the power the ocean ... is really something great, majestic and strong, but especially in these parts quite dangerous! Everything seems easy when you see it done to others, too easy! But it is not, at least for us it was not so and after the first day we were walking to surf bruises and abrasions all over his body ... but happy, really happy. Nobody has managed to get up on the table, but it was equally exciting and fun. In our favor we must say that the day chosen for learning to surf was a lot of inclement: a wind blowing that hard to allow you to remain standing for more tables that we had supplied were not suitable for some beginners.

But it was exciting so much so that the next day we were again in front of the big blue to ride the wave. After one day we had already made Passetto forward and improved our technique. We spent a few hours to watch the surfers, good ones, to copy the movements ... We even started to make speeches about how strange the waves were taken, their cyclical patterns, the influence of the current ...
And then in the water, loaded by all these speeches, but did not lead to big improvements. We exited the water as of old after five floors of stairs, we were exhausted, defeated and destroyed.

And that's all I can say Coffs Harbor, which we left after only three days, full of bruises and without a job. We made back to the bus station during the evening, as late as possible because we had chosen to travel back at night to save some 'money!
