Melbourne - Australia travel diary
Before leaving Brisbane we had a small travel program to understand how to manage our stay in
Australia: it was not easy, mainly because of the damn money. Our initial idea was great, as true adventurers had predicted a complete circle ungo the entire coastline of
Australia, with a puntatina well in the desert, in Alice Spings and magical Uluru ... was only a utopia. The only cost for the bus ticket is around $ 1200 per person Australian ... but we are kidding! Definitely out of our reach. The least painful solution was to take a flight to
Melbourne and go up the coast by bus to Brisbane, precisely to Frasier Island.
And so here we are in
Melbourne, second city of our route, again greeted by cold, and this time it was really cold, the thermometer marked 14 ° C. In fact there was an explanation ... as usual we were preceded by an event Climatological against: a flood that submerged the city and its surrounding areas, they removed the roofs and uprooting trees.
Nevertheless, we have strength and began searching for a bed to sleep. What was revealed to the complicated: there was a hole open and to not spend the night at the airport we decided to trust the wisdom of a friendly taxi driver for the absurd figure of $ 42 we have in a dorm: sistemazione provisionally in the Nomad Inn removal to another hostel, the only one that provided us a room at a price more than reasonable, but only from the night after our landing.
The next morning after breakfast we moved towards Federation Square, the main town square decorated in art deco style, then head on to visit the Parliament where they were celebrating weddings a go-go. The next stage involved the visit to the cathedral in
Melbourne: St Patrick Cathedral a magnificent building in the Gothic style.
But the "mission impossible" that we were seeking for the day was very different: our size was pulling the hair and scalp with him even our poor hair. Was no longer a hair cut but a ripping hair. For weeks now in our heads were clear traces of this malfunction occurs, mottled skin, white hair sprouting between dense blacks: Devil of a hair cut! The company cha may seem to most easily was titanic so much so that we have given up, leaving everything to the near future.
The following day, under a gloomy sky and particularly menacing we focused on the visit of the docklands, the old port district of the city partially converted into residential and recreational area: nothing special also because they are still under arrangement.
Could not miss a look at the beach in St Kilt, one of the most popular in
Melbourne. At first glance, the lawns well-shaved coconut palms and lush greenery offer a definitely positive in the district, even if once reached the sea, we were disappointed by its reddish color and the beaches filled with every type of algae. However, people have spent a morning walk in his pier and promenade, between a lot of people who enjoyed the warm summer sun, which had finally deigned to do her work.
Back in
Melbourne tram towards park, one of the plants that characterize the sporting aspect of the city, because here we had just concluded Australian Open, one of the four major tennis tournaments in the world. It is then followed by a healthy walk in the park where we had a close encounter with a bird better known as cockatoos.
The last day in
Melbourne was marked by the encounter with our fellow historical adventure Brian and Laura, two popular young Scots in Vietnam of which now you know everything and this time their stay in
Australia will extend for one year that trainees spend by excellent local hospitals.
In the evening, prepare your luggage and escorted by Brian kindly we reached the bus station to continue the journey, strictly nocturnal, towards the capital Canberra.
