Cook Islands - travel diary

Other three-hour flight and we landed in the archipelago of the Cook Islands, discoveries from the English explorer James Cook. Our plans for the second destination in the heart of the ocean, provided a period of sound and healthy sedentary, something we lacked for too long now.

As already mentioned the distance that separates the islands from Fiji to Cook is only three hours of flight. The interesting thing is that in this small space marine, goes the conventional line that marks the change of date. It is from these islands, which officially begins each day of the globe. To help you better understand this strange phenomenon, I just think that we started from Fiji on 26-03-2005 that we were twelve hours of time more than at the boot and we arrived in Rarotonga (the main island of the Cook) after a short flight but with twelve hours less compared to our beautiful Italy. It is as if we had lived twice the same day, rejuvenated impressive twenty-four hours, as if we had anticipated the date of our birthday a day, a great casino!

But the invitation to Cianci, arrived at the airport in the middle of the night, the only thing that passed through my head was to lie down on a soft bed. Fortunately we had thought well to book a hostel over the internet make sure that we were allowed to recover our arrival ... in men who do not say we were under the sheets!

The next morning we were awakened noisily da Mata, a lady who worked nell'ostello, encouraging them to get off as soon as possible to go shopping since the days following were Easter and Easter Monday and we would not find anything open. This fact, in ten minutes we were already in the van that brought us to the city center. It was an opportunity to give a first look at Rarotonga.
This is an island of volcanic (just 31 km circumference) is surrounded largely by a coral reef enclosing a delightful lagoon. The island is covered everywhere by a very green and lush vegetation, attractive place for lovers of trekking.
We left the super market loads of bags, we were almost as hard for a post with who knows what a wild place. We shot for a stroll just before knowing where you find the bus stop and finally we managed to get home.
Put something in your teeth, we proceed directly to the beach which is a hundred meters from our hostel. The lagoon was completely different to what we were accustomed to see Fiji. A water much lower, a predominantly sandy bottom with a superlative and abundant marine life.

The days that followed were marked by the absolute tranquility, between beaches and crystal clear water. We have also decided to hire a scouterino which allowed us to go and find out all the way even the most remote and hidden in this beautiful island. So we spent an Easter alternatively, away from the enchantress and eating chocolate eggs, but in the middle of fabulous. In our sunny afternoons we had the knowledge with thousands of fish from the shapes and strange colors. The thing that most surprised us was the almost unnatural sociability of these inhabitants of the sea, clearly accustomed to the presence and by our curious form, allowed us to admire them in all their beauty.

We came in a flash to the last day which is spent entirely in a persistent drizzle that has not prevented us from continuing our explorations in scooter.

The end of the month also marked the end of our stay in the Cook Islands, loaded the usual backpackers we again found at the airport ready to embark for the last pearl of the Pacific Ocean: French Polynesia.
