From Buenos Aires to Montevideo across the Rio de la Plata.
After a long weekend spent in Buenos Aires, left for
Uruguay to go to attend this great event called "Fiesta de la Patria Gaucha". The distance in a straight line of about two hundred miles between the two capitals is covered in three hours of comfortable Buquebus, our ferry. The operations of passport control, which are carried out to Argentina and at the same time entry for
Uruguay, are very fast: there are officers in sufficient numbers so that you do not create long waits standing. The waters of the Rio de la Plata,
even in the height of their larghessa, around 100 kilometers, are quiet and the journey is comfortable. The "boat" is built Norwegian: we notice the graffiti on the seats. Passengers are not many, that the boat does not seem full and you can turn with ease. Just outside the harbor we encounter the red side of a container-ship port of the Society "Hamburg-Sus", with the bow towards the ocean. We also encounter other ships, but it seems that the rush hour ... Arriiviamo in view of
Montevideo with a gray sky and the first thing we notice is the skyscraper that looks like a sail blue. Upon landing, we see that there are more people on board than it looked, but customs operations are carried out in very reasonable. Taxis in
Montevideo have the same color as those of Buenos Aires, blacks and yellows at the top. Do we take the bus station "Tres Cruces" which besides being the largest of
Montevideo is also the one where all the buses arrive and depart the country. The station is modern and very functional, so it seems at first sight. Entering Sinista there been a change and took the opportunity to pay the taxi as we were told it was better to change the Uruguayan pesos on the spot. We present the counter of the Company "Turtle" where you and cross Julian evam av already booked places for Tacuarembo. Luck would have it was the same service, so we met in person. Having developed some of the details we went downtown, in the alb ergo we had booked to rest a little in the afternoon as the bus leaves at 18.30. The hotel is in a side street of Avenida 18 de Julio, the main. Let the few things in the room and go to eat in the lunchroom. Even in
Uruguay there are the "empanadas" (rolls of dough served hot which may contain meat, vegetables or anything else of your liking), so we throw ourselves on that, without fail. The beer is good and... lets drink, also considering that we are in late summer.
