Venezuela is a country I know very well there were also several times while traveling solo, but in 1992 I took my newly married wife. I wanted this tour because they wanted to see the beauty of the interior of Venezuela, a little 'difficult but very fascinating, and then relax in the clear waters at Morrocoy Islands.

A flight from Caracas Avensa internal leads us to Puerto Ordaz where ahead of Steven Keyla Tours, an agency formed by forest guards who are concerned with lead in the Canaima National Park.

Steven is a strange, un po 'style Mr Crocodile, simpaticissimo and informed on everything that concerns the territory. Its only flaw is that leadership really so indecent and the 4X4 it's up in reckless maneuvers sometimes risking letting the neck.

The vast territory (about 35,000 sq km) is mainly inhabited by indigenous populations, especially along the banks of the river which flows Carona sull'Orinoco making the land so full of gorges, waterfalls, lakes, and vegetation of an incredible, hemmed by the beauty of tepuy, sandstone mountains in the vertical walls and the typical flat top.

Carona beyond the river on a bridge of iron to head towards the area of Gran Sabana, on the border with Brazil.

After you fill up stores (oddly beer and ron are present in industrial quantities) we head to base camp within the Park. Our accommodation is in comfortable tents and dinner in front of the fire with a group of six people who speak four languages are the limits of reality. It will be the alcohol in the body but much dialogue between us and, incredibly, we understand!

Before entering the park we stop at gold mines in El Callao, where, escorted by armed personnel, we can see how you extract the precious metal and how it is worked by men and children.

The entrance of the park is conventionally indicated by the Piedra de la Virgen, a rock that emerges about twenty meters above the vegetation.

The interior of the park is to be discovered: travel by canoe on the Rio until the Kama Kama Meru waterfall, walk along the rocks of the Rio Kukenan. La Quebrada de Jaspe (Kako-paru) is something spectacular waterfall in itself is not high, but the pavement looks like a work of artificial, entirely of jasper (jasper Jaspe means precisely) red polished. Absolutely not remove any piece of this precious material.

We continue to the border with Brazil, including the indigenous community of San Francisco de Yuruani culminating in the line, touching the ground in Brazil, where we spray pesticides and disinfectants on him (something awful).

Returning back to give a last glance at the beautiful Mount Roraima (about 2,700 meters high) to go to Canaima where we expect a Cessna that leads us to Kavak, a village situated at the base of 'Ayuan Tepui. From there, guided by some Indians, visit the Cueva, or a slit of Tepui reached by swimming or canoeing, just below a series of waterfalls. An emotion to be proved absolutely. After lunch at the village, take the Cessna to fly over from the Salto Angel, the highest waterfall in the world (about 1000 meters!) And then we give up a lot of beauty.

We hope to return one day but up for the river route to the base of the waterfall.

We leave this part of Venezuela so rich and beautiful to a head in the pouring rain to Canaima where we continue towards Caracas. Tired but happy, we need a little 'rest before returning home and rest as the best if not the white beaches of Morrocoy?

From Caracas, in about 4 hours drive, we arrive at Morrocoy National Park, namely Chichiriviche.

Not much to see, but from here you can take out a passage by boat to the beautiful islands edged with mangroves and coral reefs. Cayo Sombrero is wonderful, wild, controlled by the park guards who protect the integrity. Sea, sun and palm trees are the only things to look over the colorful aquatic fauna.

Recharge the batteries, reluctantly, to return home ....
