The story

Travelling I've learned that often, the more you expect from a place, unless we're talking about Rome or Paris, the less satisfied you are with what you find at your "destination". And fortunately the same happens if you reverse the expectation-result factors. I expected Singapore to be modern, extremely clean, excessively functional, and therefore boringly perfect. For this reason my idea of it was negative from the start. The strange feeling I had confirmed first of all everything I expected to find before my eyes, with the substantial difference being those "vibrations" that a place manages to convey. And Singapore, for all its limitations, I liked. It was the first time for me to see an Asian city, populated by Asians, living in a perfectly English and Switzerland-like functional style...

Besides shopping, of which I too was a victim when I found myself in a 6-storey building entirely devoted to TVs, stereo systems, computers, cameras and iPods..., in Singapore there is very little else to do and see. You can eat in the restaurants scattered here and there, but, still suffering the digestive after-effects of Myanmar, I couldn't fully enjoy this part of the city... Still, I'm left with the idea of a place fascinating in its own way, which in the end I liked. Even though, to be honest, I don't know exactly why... Downside of the city: it pours with rain. Continuously. Gem: Changi airport. A marvel...though more for the "insiders"...
