The story
We disembark in Crete when it is already night. Shaken by an Aegean we did not expect to be so rough. We stay on the hills above Heraklion and the first impression is that of being in another Greece. More rustic and genuine and less given over to tourism, at least to that of holidaymakers in search of sea and sun. And we try to experience it that way. The architecture changes, so do the colours, the East is closer. The archaeological site of Knossos is beautiful, the city of Heraklion lively and seafaring, and a day at the Samaria Gorge is absolutely unmissable.
