The story

The Belem district was not only one of the main departure points for Portuguese caravels in the age of the great discoveries, but above all the place from which the great Vasco da Gama set sail on 8 July 1497 for the two-year expedition during which he discovered the Indies. You can park a camper near the Monument to the Discoveries, but the spaces are limited; better is Camping Lisboa.
